You may be asking yourself, "Why birth photography? Do I really want someone taking pictures of THAT?! Is it worth the investment?"
These are all questions I've been asked or have heard in relation to birth photography.
In fact, I asked myself these very things before I took on my first job, which I did for free as a trial to see if this was
really something I wanted to do. I thought it might be as I am fascinated with birth stories and passionate about helping other women and, having two boys of my own, already knowing what a special, amazing time labor and delivery is.
However, I wasn't prepared for how passionate I would feel about wanting to do this.
When I got the call from that first client telling me her water had broken, I was excited, nervous, anxious, impatient, and running on adrenaline until she finally called me to come up to her room.
The second I stepped into her room, I knew. I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of,
something so important and so special, I had to do it. I felt incredibly honored and blessed to be trusted to capture these amazing, miraculous moments for my client.
So yes, I 100% think it birth photography is worth the investment.
I promise when you are delivering that I will be as out of the way and unobtrusive as possible,
but I also can pretty much guarantee that you probably won't care much about me since you'll be
pretty focused on the task at hand! As for the photos, if you flip through my portfolio, I think you'll see I am discreet and tasteful about what I capture. There may be a few photos in your personal collection that make you say,
"WHAT? I did THAT? No. No way!". However, no one is going to see those except you, me and whomever you choose to show them to.
Why do birth photography? Because this is a moment in time you will never be able to recreate.
Of course it is something you will always remember, but I am always saying that I wish
I had a picture of the moment my midwife held my son up and I saw him for the first time. When I looked at my client's pictures, I wished I could see the amazing things my body did to get me to that moment, wished I could flip through a book and see my husband's responses to what was going on around him, wished I could relive my sons' births through images.
Like your wedding day, this is a unique, special and incredible day you will never want to forget!
